HAVI Friends

(Montreal, Canada)

HAVI Friends is a Montreal-based program where parents and children participate side-by-side. Parents/caregivers can freely share their experiences living with children with intellectual disabilities in a private space, while professionals and guest speakers guide conversations about disability issues and help navigate families through Montreal resources. 

Individuals with disabilities simultaneously benefit from a mentorship program, in their own designated space, with a volunteer. The student volunteer undergoes a disability orientation. Individuals with disabilities participate in a variety of activities with their volunteer 'friend'.  Volunteers and children/individuals are supervised by HAVI staff at all times.

HAVI Friends Hangouts

HAVI Friends Hangouts are a great way for volunteers to get involved with children with disabilities. Volunteers will plan and lead group sessions for children who have intellectual disabilities. We welcome all ideas for group sessions including playing music, dance classes, arts n’ crafts, interactive games, and any group activity that can be imagined! This program is currently on hold.

educate our girls

(Volta region, Ghana)

Educate Our Girls  started in May 2014. HAVI focuses on providing educational scholarships to girls with intellectual abilities to school.

We currently offer educational sponsorships to 5 girls with various disabilities in Ghana. They attend schools particularly to their needs while their parents receive disability education, with the hopes of integrating in society. Children adhere to the Ghana Education Services curriculum and learn a vocation for which they will practice upon graduation.  We are looking to grow this program to help girls across the Volta Region of Ghana with your assistance!

We’ll be back in Summer!

We are all excited to get back to normal life after the COVID-19 pandemic. HAVI is introducing a new program for Summer, for all families that join the HAVI Friends workshops. More info to come!

HAVI well

(Volta Region, GHAna)

HAVI completed a water project, which brought fresh drinking water to 9000 villagers in Penyi, Ghana. HAVI is also building a sustainable school, which aims to provide children with intellectual disabilities the opportunity for education and vocational training in the same community. Your generosity helps us continue to provide basic needs to those in need.
